12/8 and 12/10

Hello Everyone, 

We will have two evening meetings this week. 

Monday: 12/8 Prosecution only. 6:00 in K2. If you can volunteer to bring snacks please let me know. 

Wednesday 12/10: Defense only. 6:00 In K2. If you can volunteer to bring snacks please let me know. 

Monday 12/15: 6:00 K2. Last practice before finals. We will do a whole run through of the trial. You do not need to dress up but please be prepared. Even if you are a backup role you should be prepared just in case.

This week we will have two meetings. 

12/2: 3:00 in K2. We will meet the duration of seventh period and practice questions to incorporate the feedback from the lawyers. 

12/4: 6:00 in K2.

Our next meeting is Tuesday 10.28 after school at 3:00 in K2. You will be here for an hour. Make sure you meet up with your question partner at some point.

Here are the notes from last night:

Prosecution Theories:

·      What: Theft of art

o   Expert witness

o   McCulluch (owner/victim) gives opinion that painting found in his house was fake/replica.

·      Who: Evan Shem = guilty

o   Attempted to create a copy of treason

o   Showed clear interest in the painting.

·      Motive:

o   financial gains

§  debt

§  job was ending

§  inquiry of value of painting to TM Little 100,000

Defense:

·      What: no theft of art (nothing was stolen)

·      Who: Perhaps Gibbons? Shem framed?

·      Motive: Same as Shem’s potential motives if he did actually steal it.

Rebuttal:

·      Identify weakness in theories.

·      Rebutting defense’s claims

·      Why would Gibbon’s choose that painting over another more expensive painting

·      Does Gibbon’s know that there is a copy to be replaced?

·      Does Gibbon’s know how much the painting was valued for?

·       

Audition Sign Up

Please sign up using the google document. Sign up using this link.

Fill out your name, the role you are auditioning for, and a time slot that works for you.

If a time slot is taken, please do not delete their name and add yours. (I can see who makes edits!)

Try not to leave any gaps in the time slots. Please leave the first six slots for water polo players.

One of the coaches will be your witness or lawyer while you are auditioning. This is why we are asking you to sign up by Friday evening so we can prepare. 

If you are auditioning for the bailiff or clerk you do not need to sign up.

If you are auditioning for pretrail:
    pick a side (prosecution or defense) and be prepared to argue which case is most in your favor and which case is the weakest.

Hello Mock Trialers and Mock Trial Families,

I’m happy to see that over the summer our numbers have grown significantly. This year there will be a number of changes to Leland Mock Trial.

First, we have a new coach. Thank you to Mrs. Stebbins (a Santa Clara County District Attonrey and parent of one of our fellow Mock Trialers).

Second, the students and I are looking for increased support from Mock Trial parents. Whether it be carpooling to events, providing dinner for late nights, encouraging your students to practice, or anything else that may come up throughout the year, additional parent support is one of the keys to our success as a team.

 I am asking that both students and parents stay in the loop by checking my blog at  http://lelandmocktrial.blogspot.com/

Our first meeting will be September 25^th after school in K-2. The case will be released on September 23rd and students will have the fall break to review the materials. We will start the audition process after we return from break the week of October 6^th.

I am asking that each student bring their own binder for the case with dividers. I would like them all to be black.
